The Art of Storytelling
Law & Ethics
I always strive to tell stories in the most lawful and ethical manner. In order to do so, I'm required to understand media law and conduct.
History of Journalism
Students in The Quill are required to produce a research presentation on the history of journalism. This ensures that students have an understanding of the basis of journalism and how it has evolved over time.

Freedom of the Press
I submitted an essay for the New Mexico State Bar Student Essay Contest with the given topic of freedom of speech in schools. This essay argues the protection of school media and student speech; it required extensive research on court cases and other issues that helped me better understand the rights of the journalist.

Anonymous Sources
On the rare occasion that Centennial Student News deals with anonymous sources, we are required to black out the subject and eliminate all recognizable features. The reporter is required to voice-over the soundbite from the source.
Unprotected Speech
Before Centennial Student News covers an issue that may be risky, we are advised to consult administration to review the subject.
Misinformation
I fact check information from all of my stories to ensure that I produce the highest quality of journalism. If there is a situation in which information is not correct, I immediately remove the content. For more information on credibility, see News Literacy.
